Two Events, Two Very Different Nights
On September 11, 2026, Visit Sacramento runs the California Grand Tasting at the SAFE Credit Union Convention Center. This is the ticketed half. It folds together what used to be two separate tastings, the Grand Tasting and Legends of Wine, into one evening built around roughly 30 restaurants and 25 to 30 wineries pouring in a single room. Among this year's participating kitchens is Canon, the East Sacramento restaurant led by chef and owner Brad Cecchi, who's serving a chicken liver mousse with Concord grape on a sweet corn cake made specifically for the tasting.
Two weeks later, September 25 through 27, the free version runs as Terra Madre Americas, a multi-day marketplace at the same convention center with food trucks, growers and vendors, wine and craft beer sampling, cooking demonstrations and family activities. Admission itself is free and the event runs cashless, so you pay at each booth rather than at a gate. It's a different footprint than the old Capitol Mall street fair, but it's the closer cousin to what longtime Farm-to-Fork regulars remember: no ticket required, just a weekend to wander through.

Why One Weekend Became Two
Farm-to-Fork spent eleven years as a Capitol Mall street fair before Visit Sacramento moved the event to the SAFE Credit Union Convention Center in 2025, rebranding the expanded version as Terra Madre Americas, modeled on Turin's Terra Madre Salone del Gusto. That first run packed the venue with more than 75 local and international vendors, an agroecology hub curated in part by the Slow Food Coffee and Wine Coalitions, and a reservation-only bistro that sold out before most people realized tickets existed.
For 2026, the tasting and the marketplace run as two separate dates instead of one combined weekend. A curated, ticketed dinner-and-wine evening no longer shares a footprint with a multi-day, family-friendly marketplace.
